You may have heard or perhaps seen something in the news media recently referring to “Acts against Democracy” and “Undermining Journalism

These news media reports refer to a mysterious 35P. What is this 35P?

One of the Acts which the Foreign Fighters Bill 2014 ( 3ZZHA ) seeks to change , among others, is the Australian Security Organisation Act 1979.  The Advisory Report (page 20 2.69) reiterates the concerns put forward by submissions.

This act itself can be found here. When opening the Act scroll down and you will find 35P

35P - ASIOact1979

35P=2asioAct1979

However not all is lost...the PJCIS is accepting submissions, closing 10th November 2014 and is open for public hearing 13th November 2014.

Put in a submission through the email address and be part of the legislative process. One example of how convoluted the legislative process can be is in the first slide the “Note” – Recklessness

This refers to the “Criminal Code”.

CrimesAct1995 - sect5.6

And yes…there’s another “Note” which refers to 5.4 Recklessness.

CrimesAct=1995-5.4

Send your submissions in as an individual or organisation, publicly or private.

Cryptome – letter of demand

Cryptome have released a letter of demand.

The letter dated 14th July 2014 states the intent of demand on all the documents taken by Edward Snowden from the NSA for “accounting and public release of all documents”.

ee

The demand comes as continued frustration mounts surrounding the way Glenn Greenwald and the Intercept have handled the drip feed of information, redacted slides and working with United States Government consent.

Only a few hundred actual documents having being released through a mesh of media outlets, which has led to the distinct lack of any meaningful academic research. The small number of citizen activists and researchers that have made any sense out of the releases are muted by the booming LRAD  “leave Brittany alone” Greenwald media punklets which croon and sway at the orgy of ceremonial award back slapping.

Cryptomes “legal action” should be replaced by “storm the studio..this is a hostile takeover..no prisoners!”

Obvious from the past year is that the development application and security industry has been asleep at the wheel and really can offer no tangible help in respect to personal privacy and security, and it is now a well known fact , security is a myth.

The relevance of the Snowden files is slowly fading into the sunset, a fireplace of badly written books and a crappy movie will be all that people will remember…or is this the whole point?

If only…

The CIA Freedom of Information site was acting strangely…Approximately 1:41 pm (DC), Jason Leopold fired a tweet out exclaiming the appearance of what looked like characters from a Mahjong game across ones monitor.

Happy Birthday Mr Snowden…?

Bendigo – the town that said “NO” to Islam (and failed?)

More than 200 Bendigo residents have voiced their opposition to the Bendigo City Council approving plans for the construction of a $3 million Mosque in the eastern part of the town.

There were some 350 objections to the development and more than 40 submissions of support.

If you’re Muslim and you want a mosque, go back to the Middle East. This is Australia,”

One example of the type of Islam-a-phobia that grips the region along with a  deep ignorance towards the unknown.

Regardless the Council has approved the construction, with some changes in the height of the minaret for example, and no prayer calls.

Bendigo people own Bendigo, it’s their town, they have the right to say mosque or no mosque,”

We’re not racists.”  were common threads heard at the meeting.

The International students which come to Bendigo to study at the near by La Trobe Uni make up a large part of the Muslim Population in Bendigo.

A Mosque in Bendigo would be a great asset..and lets face it, Bendigo needs all it can get.

UPDATE 28 June 2014

Restore Australia has paid for a Sydney lawyer often used in anti-mosque hearings, Robert Balzola, to appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal on planning grounds.

Update 20 October 2014

Recent article from September from The Castlemanian should be noted.

Was this more about the safety of the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation, which is also in Bendigo?

A cleverly disguised attempt by Oz spooks to keep Bendigo free from some unseen danger associated with Islam?

The Electronic Frontiers Australia held a seminar as a part of the Thought WorksAgile

Senator Scott Ludlum appeared on a Skype connect and gave a very erudite account of the state of the surveillance machine.

EFA’s Jon Lawrence (EO) spoke about the history of internet surveillance activism transcending through different generations right up to the modern Snowden release.

An important issue Jon raised was the fact that the same issues are being dealt with today as where being dealt with 20 years ago and without understanding the past, one can not understand the future. Jon speaks about the export ban on the 40 bit key to USA in early 1990’s and the Governments realisation that encryption has benefits for the wider online community, which led to the rise of internet banking and other such transactions.
