Senator Requests Obama Admin. Provide Congress with Secret Legal Opinions on Targeted Assassinations of US Citizens

A US senator has accused the Obama administration and the Justice Department for not being “adequately forthcoming” with information on the targeting and potential killing of Americans suspected of terrorism.

Ron Wyden, the Democratic senator from Oregon and a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, wrote an open letter to John Brennan, the frontrunner for the post of Director of the CIA, asking Brennan to provide Congress with the secret legal opinions defining the government’s capacity to pursue and kill US citizens suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.

Members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence by law have access to classified legal opinions – but, Wyden writes, the Obama administration has denied him access to the opinions governing targeted assassinations of American citizens.

Wyden has tried for more than two years to gain access to the information, but has received either unsatisfactory responses or no response at all.

Fake Job Ad for James Bond-Style Hitman Posted on UK Gov. Website

A spoof advert for a would-be James Bond with a license to kill has appeared on an official Government website.

The appeal for a ‘target elimination specialist’ was posted on Friday, on the Department for Work and Pensions’ Directgov.co.uk website, apparently on behalf of MI6.

It said that the Government had, from time to time, “a need to remove people whose continued existence poses a risk to the effective conduct of public order”.

Potential candidates were told they would need to be “resourceful in finding ways to accomplish their missions and, in some cases, to leave foreign countries by non-conventional means”.

The online advert went on to promise that the successful applicant would receive equipment such as special watches, mini-submarines and Bond’s signature gun, the Walther PPK, along with a £50,000-£60,000 salary plus bonuses following successful missions.

It added that the job, which had the reference number 007, would be “appropriate for those who like their martinis shaken and not stirred”.

Unfortunately for would-be spies, a spokesperson for MI6 has confirmed the advert is fake and the Government is not looking to recruit a killer.

She added that it was not yet clear how the ad got onto the site.

It has now been removed.

@YourAnonNews tweeted 9000+ Israeli government websites have been taken down or defaced.

­Over the past four days, Israel has “deflected 44 million cyber-attacks on government websites,” Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz told AP. “This is an unprecedented attack,” he said.

To summarise – the British Government has tonight recognised that Bradley Manning is a citizen of the United Kingdom. His plight is of wide concern in the UK, as evidenced by over thirty MPs conveying their constituents’ concerns onwards to the Foreign Office – and, by the way, all those reading this who did write to their MP should feel very proud of themselves right now.

The Government has also revealed that representations about Bradley’s treatment have been made on a diplomatic level and that they will be again as a result of tonight’s debate. Not only this, but Parliament has been assured that a request for consular access from the family will be “looked at” should one be made. Tonight’s events have been extraordinarily positive and we trust that developments on this latter point will emerge in short order.
