The cable show Mubarak set about designing a constitution that would allow only his son, or an NDP member to run for president in an election. To be eligible to run for election the candidate must have support from the opposition members, a practice that would ensure only NDP candidates would be running for office.
In the second cable the pressure from the Mubarak, SSIS (State Security) on Arab bloggers.
Egypt had an approximate 160,000 bloggers through which democratic activism was taking place in an organized and informed way. After 2005 -6 Mubarak cracked down on any blogger critical of his government or Islam.

When tanks protect.
This was about day 4-5 of the Egyptian demonstrations. Tanks were plainly seen positioning themselves to protect the demonstrators from police fire. Throughout the day the police would alternate from using ‘bird shot’ to ‘tear gas’ to live rounds.
